자연에 안기고, 풍경을 품다

여주 장안리 자연농원의 완만한 경사지에 자리한 이 저택은 주변 풍경을 집 안으로 빌려오는 한국 전통 건축의 ‘차경(借景)’의 미학을 현대적으로 재해석하여 자연과 건축의 내밀한 상호작용을 구현합니다. 5m의 지형 고저 차를 활용해 근경의 시선은 차단하고 남측으로 펼쳐지는 파노라마 조망을 극대화했습니다.

건물은 ‘ㄱ’자 배치를 통해 수직적 조형미를 둔 ‘후정(後庭)’과 수평적 비움의 ‘전정(前庭)’이라는 두 가지 상반된 정원을 품습니다. 그 사이의 다이닝 공간은 안팎의 자연이 유연하게 교차하는 통로가 되며, 거실의 전면 창은 내부와 외부의 경계를 허물어 거주자가 마치 마당 한가운데 머무는 듯한 공간감을 선사합니다. 시선이 머무는 복도 끝단에 배치된 창은 시선을 자연스럽게 외부의 풍경으로 확장합니다. 지하층은 선큰 가든과 수직 중정을 통해 빛과 자연을 깊숙이 끌어들여 정적인 침잠(沈潛)의 미학을 완성했습니다.

산세의 흐름을 존중한 수평적 외관은 지상의 부드러운 트래버틴과 지하의 거친 사비석이 조화를 이루며 매스의 견고함과 따뜻함을 동시에 전합니다. 이는 건축의 조형이 자연의 결에 순응하며 비로소 완성되는 미학적 균형의 풍경입니다.

Embracing Nature, Framing the Landscape

Situated on a gentle slope within the Jangan-ri Natural Plantation in Yeoju, this residence modernizes the traditional Korean architectural concept of Chakyung (borrowed scenery), fostering an intimate interaction between nature and architecture. By utilizing the 5-meter topographical level change, the design strategically blocks immediate low-angle views while maximizing the panoramic southern vistas.

The 'L-shaped' layout embraces two contrasting courtyards: a 'Rear Garden' defined by vertical sculptural beauty, and a 'Front Yard' embodying horizontal emptiness. The intervening dining area serves as a fluid conduit where interior and exterior nature seamlessly intersect. In the living room, expansive full-height windows dissolve the boundary between inside and out, offering an immersive experience as if standing in the middle of the yard. Windows placed at the terminus of the hallways naturally extend the occupant's gaze toward the outdoor scenery. Below, the subterranean level draws light and nature deep into its core through a sunken garden and a vertical courtyard, completing an aesthetic of tranquil immersion.

Respecting the contours of the surrounding mountains, the horizontal facade achieves an aesthetic balance where the architectural form yields to the texture of nature. This is beautifully expressed through the material harmony of soft travertine on the ground level and rugged, rustic granite (Sabi-seok) below, conveying both structural solidarity and warmth.
